[MaxPC] Hard Drive & Motherboard Prices to Go Up - Page 2

I don't see how an earthquake in northern Japan - most of Japan's manufacturing is placed in the South - could have affected the supply of such materials so drastically. This is more due to consumer speculation than anything else. Happens with oil prices all the time.

1) Why wouldn't "rapidly rising input costs" lead to increase prices?
2) Uncertainity increases prices due to increase risk. The earthquake obviously increased uncertainty in Japanese economy.
3) Rolling blackouts for the next 6+ months will affect production (directly or indirectly).
4) There was a temporary halt on exports/imports.
5) Production of components on the nanometer scale is very delicate. A 10 millisecond blackout can (and has) halted production for 2+ weeks.

Pretty much exactly this. There have also been repeated statements by some of the component manufacturers (ElPida, Micron, etc...) about raising prices. Not to mention the global economy is recovering and growing, which equates to higher demand for a product category that is largely based on commodities.

Meh. I haven't upgraded a while, but I don't really need to. Thanks to consoles I know I will be able to max any games that will come out in the near future.

I would have liked to snag a class 10 32GB microSDHC card, and a new SSD, but I'm ok with waiting.

The Japanese will rebuild, and they will probably take the time to make some improvements, so in the end we'll likely end up with better goods.

Uhm, movies, games, music?

I have ~7tb of usable space (due to my raid configurations) and I'm using ~5tb of space.

It never hurts to have a lot of space.

The price of everything seems to be going up these days. Too much turmoil in the world......

I'm glad that I didn't make the same mistake when DDR2 memory was so cheap. I still kick myself for not buying the OCZ Gold 2x2gb DDR2 800 memory for $25 at Microcenter when I had the chance. I stocked up on DDR3 and stuffed 8gb in my Server and HTPC while it's cheap.

I'm trying to resist this just for the sake of purchasing cheap 2tb hdd's

EEEK!!! I'm gonna buy a Caviar black this instant before it's too late.

My solid state can wait though It's not effected.
