Motorola Xoom 1-Click-Root Guide / Overclock Results

The Motorola Xoom Zoom. I have one and I love it, I seriously don't put it down very often. Even overclocked to 1.5 Ghz I get well over 8 hours of battery life. I can use it all day long and not plug it in overnight either. Love it!

This is a small guide for those that want to Root their Xoom and have some fun, use Root Explorer, backup with titanium and all the many other reasons to backup... and since we are here at OCN. Root will also allow you to Overclock. That is where the Zoom Xoom comes from. This quick guide will show you how to root, and overclock your xoom to be a Dual Core 1.5 Ghz Beast!

To skip right to xda-developers for the root guide and full thread to ask questions. Here is the link:
XDA Forums Xoom 1-Click-Root Thread

This is a GUI front end for the adb commands that are needed.

To use this tool:

1. You MUST have your tablet in Debug mode.
2. You DO NOT have to download the SDK or any images.
3. YOU MUST ACCEPT ALL THE USUAL RISKS.

Like ALL rooting there is a risk of bricking your device. It’s a small risk but a risk you need to be aware of.
You WILL void your warranty using this tool. (oh well biggrin.gif)

This tool is easy. I have rooted unrooted and rerooted my Xoom umpteen times today testing it.

NOTE: The WIFI version tools will only work for unlocking and rooting. I do not have the images for the back to stock on the Wifi. (Coming Soon)

There are two versions of this tool:

1. Root AND Unroot and back to stock. This one is large because of the stock system.img clocking in at 200+mb

2. The NO UNROOT version. This is lots smaller. It is only about 19mb. You can NOT UNROOT with this tool. (Well, you can unroot but not relock. )

Before starting get the Motorola USB Drivers installed:

Instructions:
1. Unzip the tool and all of the folders and files into a directory. Preferably a folder on a root drive. (i.e. c:\xoom )

2. Run the Xoom One Click EXE tool and follow the instructions. Read the prompts carefully.

WARNING: WIFI Root is untested as I do not have a Wifi. Let me know how it works. Same process as 3G I just cant test it. (tested and now works great)

Overclocking:
Instead of writing the instructions for overclocking kernels and all here I'll just link to the 2 main overclocking kernels currently out. I'm using Tiamat personally, but both should work great.

Tiamat 1.5 Ghz Kernel & Extra's
Original Xoom 1.5 Ghz overclock Kernel

I hope anyone that has recently bought the Motorola Xoom will find this useful. This is more than 1 click, more like 4 or 5. But sure beats entering tons of commands into adb. I've done this on my 3G Xoom and can confirm it works great. For any questions follow to the original thread at xda at the top of this post. Now check out below for some overclocking results and more. Enjoy!

OK, up next I have some pictures and overclocking results for everyone.
I was able to get around a 59% performance increase in benchmarks by overclocking to 1.504 Ghz.

to set your overclocks after you are rooted download setCPU from the Android Market, or free at XDA
For those wondering how I'm taking screenshots of the device you need to be rooted also and then install Screenshot ER, it is also in the Android Market or free from the developers at XDA.

Quadrant Benchmark Stock Run

Note: Quadrant is still under development for dual core devices, so it does not fully account for both cores in benchmarking but still shows great increase in performance

Quadrant Benchmark Overclocked to 1.4 Ghz

Quadrant Benchmark Xoom Overclocked to 1.504 Ghz (59% performance increase over stock)

Pretty impressive increase in the Quadrant gaming Benchmarks, wouldn't you say. I think it will be even higher when it accounts for 100% of both cores.

Is your tablet a 3G or WiFi only? I just GT my Xoom WiFi and want to get a sense of how successful it has been (or wait until next week when I'm not so busy).
