That's not what he was referring to but that will be a hindrance as well.. You would be fine with a 8x/8x setup but a 16x/4x will definitely bottleneck, as well as the fact that your CPU may not be able to properly utilize both of your GPUs for 3d apps.

yea, i am finding that it is not much of a boost, like 10fps that is it. project for this summer is a new mobo, cpu and cooling so that should fix it

well i figured out why i was not seeing much of a difference, according to MSI Afterburner the second card is not being used at all, it shows a constant 0% GPU usage for it....

Why cant this just be easy for a change....

It is easy, you just didn't research properly before crossfiring.

Your board/cpu bottleneck your cards. It's as simple as that.

Once you get some gaming happening, it WILL use the second card...

1. Your CPU could indeed be a bottleneck unless highly overclocked.
2. Are you checking the GPU usage while gaming? If so, which game?

Even if you had a big bottleneck, you should still be seeing some GPU usage on both cards.

no, it would not use the second card, Crossfire was not enabled, i had to reinstall CCC because the option was not there

1. i dont have it oc'ed as of now because i am still having problems with the crossfire. usually it is about 3.5ghz

2. yes i am using MSI after burner OSD to monitor it while playing League of Legends and no it was not using any of the second card

on the contrary though i am convinced that the card i just got back from RMA is faulty, whenever i do enable Crossfire and go to a full screen game the screen flickers and has black bars rolling across it

Remember that CFX only works in fullscreen mode.

The black flickering sounds like your cards aren't getting enough power personally. I'd definitely look into replacing your Coolmax 650w PSU with something of quality.
