Hey there! I'm new to the forum. I've been a computer geek my whole life (I'm 16) but am just now learning the parts and pieces. My dad helped me upgrade my system to make it better for gaming, which I am new to PC gaming as well. I have been a console gamer my whole life. What do you guys think? What could I upgrade to make it even better? The specs are listed below.

It's good for not being a hardcore(?) rig.

CPU cooler if you are using stock so youc an OC slightly if you are just learning. Also I would upgrade video card to at least a 6850 or 460. And I would see if I could get Win 7 free/cheap through your school.

edit: if money is an issue for you I would sell 4GB from your 8 and use that towards an upgrade.

Great little rig, spec is not over the top, good for everyday use!

Nice job on the balance, bud!

I'd recommend a PSU upgrade, Rocketfist are a 'meh' brand.

To be honest, the first step should be to get rid of that Vista crap.

I don't think you've got the model of your Motherboard right

Nice CPU! Nice GPU! I think it's an alright system, minus the OS

If you want to make it better:

Upgrade the PSU to something a bit more, 550W/650W?

Upgrade the RAM to DDR3, crazy deals going on right now.

Change the OS to Linux 64bit it's free! If you can, get win7 64 bit somehow, someway!

SSD's are pretty awesome and it'd definatley be an upgrade for gaming to have your OS on a Solid State.

New MoBo?

That's a lot of stuff but, those are all solid upgrades that you'd feel gaming. Welcome to the forums and keep posting!

Well, that statement is pretty general. Give us an idea of what games you had in mind. I will try to give you a basic idea of what a typical, entry level gaming rig might look like:

CPU: Intel Core i3 or Phenom II x2 Processor
Memory: 4GB or higher DDR3 (or DDR2 in your case)
Motherboard: Depends on if you want to run single or multiple GPUs, generally speaking, you don't want to skimp on this part. You can find good Intel and AMD mobos that are good entry level boards for around $70-80
HDD: Samsung F3 500GB or greater (samsung makes some awesome HDDs)
Power Supply: Another area you definitely don't want to skimp. Corsair, Antec, Silverstone, Rosewill all make greats PSUs. Here's a link to a PSU guide here on OCN.
Display: The Dell you have should suffice.
GPU: The 5750 you have listed is good for resolutions less than 1920x1080, but for that Dell you have (which I'm sure is at least 1080) you should be looking at something along the lines of an HD 6850 or GTX 560Ti.

Sound Card, Speakers, Keyboard and Mouse or more of a personal preference in my opinion. Not saying you can cheap out on them, just that what sounds or feels good to me, may not to you.

Your OS is fine, but I personally would upgrade to W7 64Bit if you plan on using more than 4GB (3.25 actually) of RAM.

There's my hope it helps you out.

Thanks everyone! Well money wise, I have a birthday coming up and am able to get about $300 worth of computer stuff. I'd like my computer to be able to run crysis or crysis 2. Not necessarily on great settings, but I'd like it to run on at least medium settings. I just bought my graphics card literally a month ago so I'm not wanting to replace it just yet. I can't seem to find out exactly what my mother board is or the model. All I know about it is what I posted.

So is 8GB of ram excessive? If it is I could totally sell 2 or 4 gigs in order to be able to afford some better components. Also the case is sort of an issue, everything is jammed in there (not literally, just saying that there's no space for anything big.) My computer is basically an upgraded HP p6130y if that helps.

I also have an old, pretty crappy, graphics card that I upgraded from last month that I might could sell for like $40 or so(bought it for $70) , that could go towards something. It's a Galaxy nvidia geforce 9800 gt.
