i7 940 vs i5 2500k

Thread Starter
I'm not trolling, please don't flame.

I'm genuinely wanting to know which is the better buy.

Also, I use my computer mostly for gaming, but I wouldn't mind having HT.

I'm going to overclock which ever one I get to 4.0ghz+.

If you're gaming get the 2500. Only reason to go Nehalem is if you needs lots'o'memory.

Gaming, go for the i5 2500K.

The only exception is if you plan on doing a tri or quad SLI/CFX setup. Then the increased lanes on the X58 platform (i7 9XX) are a definite advantage. but Quad/Tri SLI/CFX setups are really only useful if you have a monitor setup with a huge resolution, 5760x1080 or 2560x1600 or higher, and a budget in the 2500+ range.
