There are several issues with the MSI boards in question:
1) They use cheap sub-par quality MOSFETs. Cheap meaning they don't take much punishment/stress
2) Very few VRM phases. So the load is concentrated on a very few MOSFETs.
3) They tend to be un-heatsinked.
4) People who tend to crank voltages despite # 1, 2, 3
Your board only suffers from #2. Gigabyte board tend to be fairly durable. Still, with so few power phases those critters can get quite hot. And any OCing will likely beg for good ventilation.
If you can wait 2-3 months for BD, by all means do. AMD is promising much lower power draw and much greater computing power compared to current gen Phenom IIs.
