Can't Duplicate Displays

Thread Starter
Hey Guys,

I recently upgraded my GPU's to 2 Asus GTX 560 ti's. What I want to do is run an HDMI cable from each card to each of my TVs. They are both Sony 1080p TVs. One is a 32" that I use for my monitor and the other is a 46" TV that I use as my regular TV. I have everything hooked up correctly as I can choose the "extend displays" mode. But, if I try to use the "duplicate these displays" mode I get an error message that says "Unable to save display settings".

This really sucks because I wanted to be able to duplicate my main display so that I can play some games and watch video files on my tv with my surround sound without having to go through the trouble of changing my main display each time and all of that.

Any ideas?

Are the cards set up in SLI?
If so, try no SLI.

I just tried to disable the SLI and the option to duplicate display disappeared. It wasnt just grayed out, it completely removed that option from the drop down. Then when I re-enabled SLI, the option returned, but still wouldnt work. That was a good idea though.

i always thought 3 displays are handled very....strangly by nvidia in that you can only use it in NVsurround mode and other modes don't work properly.

i guess i could be wrong tho ive never had sli so i've never connected more than 2 monitors to 1 card tongue.gif but i remember reading it in the forums once.

I think you got confused. I only have 2 displays. They are both 1080P TVs.

I dont think so, because before the GPU upgrade I was using 2 9800gtx+ in SLI and I was able to duplicate screens between 2 22" monitors. The diference being that they were hooked up with DVI cables.

Does anyone think the HDMI cables may be the culprit? I know that HDMI cables use HDCP for DRM on blurays. Could that be stopping the duplication of the displays?

Just a thought, but why would anyone want to watch two movies at once?

I realize your intent is to watch a movie while computing, but that likely wasn't the intent of the engineers that designed HDMI capable video cards.

I've seen other posts about, on a single video card, hooking up HDMI disables VGA and DVI outputs.

no

i have dvi (primary) and hdmi (secondary extended or duplicate) working at the same time just fine.

when i connect a 3rd monitor to dvi#2, the secondary display stops working (in my case thats the hdmi one)

as others have said it can't be done while in SLI, NVIDIA surround can handle three monitors, yes, but that uses all three as one monitor. You can use to monitors but they both have to be off one card while in SLI.
