Need help overclocking phenom ii 555be

System specs:

MSI 870a-G54 mainboard (latest firmware)
Phenom II x2 555 Black Edition w/ coolermaster hyper 212+
2x2gb g skill ripjaws 7-8-7-24 1333 2T
sapphire radeon 5770
1x dvd/rw
1x WD 640gb Black
1x OCZ Vertex 2 60gb
3x 120mm lighted case fans
Antex 750w

First things first, this is the second set of memory in this system, at advertised timing specs no post @ 1600.. w/ loose timings it will boot at 1600 but with errors...first ocz black edition ram did the same thing.

Now, have got the processor stable upto 3.6ghz @ 1.43 volts...ram set @ 1333 7-8-7-24 @1.599 volts

Cannot unlock any cores, even setting core control to manual and disabling all but 1 core.

I originally had a antec 500watt psu and suspected that as the problem with low voltage, I couldn't get the computer to get upto 3.7ghz at all, with the new psu it gets up to 3.7ghz but fails prime 95.

Current max load temps are 42-44*/idle 33-34*

All I read is how easily this processor overclocks w/out even having to touch the voltage....is this a motherboard problem I'm facing now?

Any help is appreciated, any more info you need just let me know.

BTW, all overclocking I'm doing is with the multiplier.

what is the stepping of your phenom? if it is the C2 version you are pretty good with 3.7ghz, if it is the C3 version you could go 4ghz+

try to put everything else on stock, ram, north bridge clock etc.. bump the multiplier to 20x and voltage 1.418 on bios then see if it's stable.. I have mine unlocked to x3 at 4ghz 1.403v stable.. also if your mobo supports LLC (load line calibration) leave it enabled

set all the voltages and ram timings to stock except for cpu...20x multiplier and it wouldn't even post.

cool n quiet is disabled
c1e disabled

don't think I have llc

then try to bump multi at 0.5x by time.. 16,5x then 17,0x.. 17,5x and else.. also try 20x multi and 1.45v then 1.475 and see if it boots

What are the temperatures on your processor?
Phenom II can be unstable from heat; less heat is more stable, even up to the point where you can run the same clocks with less voltage

Was in my first post...

Current max load temps are 42-44*/idle 33-34*
post #10 of 12
Try more voltage at 3.7-3.8Ghz i.e. 1.475-1.5V (don't go higher than 1.5 on this mobo)
