Adware/Spyware removal help

Thread Starter
Hi everyone,

I originally have been posting to this outdated topic here:

http://www.overclock.net/networking-...id-adware.html

This person seems to be having literally the same exact issue that I have. I have tried just about everything to get rid of this (different spyware removal software, anti-virus, etc.)

Basically, the nature of the problems is that I am getting random popups opening in new tabs in Firefox 4. Additionally, I am getting random blue screens of death... especially when I try to use some of the recommended programs to remove it such as ComboFix.

When I start the computer in safe mode, I still have the same issue.

One of the popups I remember was trying to go to a website called www.antro-co0ler.com.

Here is my hijackthis log:

Honestly at that point, you should do as the other poster and reformat the system.

It's really not about it being a easier solution, but the fact that you cannot trust a system so badly infected anymore.

Since it seems to be pretty well hidden even from the scans you've run, it's likely to be rootkit of some sort, so even if you do manage to remove the apparent problem, you cannot be sure if something was left behind.

You have a lot of "File missing" entries, and some are system files (on cursory inspection), this can be caused by registry/system cleaners. I don't see any glaring security problem in your log, but the file missing O23 entries are disturbing because they're system files.

My first suggestion is to restate what has already been said. Reformat your drive and reinstall Windows and other software. This will fix the majority of any issues that you may not even be aware of having - all related to missing files and hotkeys.

If you don't wish to go through the trouble of a clean format, and believe me, I know it sucks to do, then I suggest you take this log to www.BleepingComputer.com and post in their HJT Log forum. Personally, I didn't find anything that just jumped out and screamed Trojan, but that doesn't mean much these days. Also, if it's a rootkit, then you might not find it on the log, taboot. There are a few good free rootkit removal programs, but do some research, pick ONE, and use it. However, the people at bleepingcomp are pro. I have used them and have recommended them to many friends.

BTW, I see that you are running multiple Malware software and would recommend picking one to install in the future. I personally don't have any Malware apps installed. However, I keep the installers on file in case, lol.

Boot into safe mode command prompt, do a system restore to a point you know was functioning correctly, re-boot into safemode w/networking, download and run Hitman Pro. That works well for me. You'll have to look up how to run sys restore from the command prompt, I don't remember the exact syntax.
