Questions about new Build?

Thread Starter
Hey Everyone , i am relativly new here , have looked here for answers and information before but not as a member , I have decided i wanted to get some ideas as to why i am not getting the performance quite like i expected to get out of my system , here first off , here is my system:

Coolermaster HAF 932 Case
ASUS Crossfire IV Mainboard
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black edition
8 GB of Ripjaws DDR3 1066 Memory
XFC 850 Watt Black edition Power supply
Corsair H70 Hydro Cool CPU Cooler
ATi Radeon HD 5850 (regular edition)
ATi Radeon HD 5850 (Vapor-X edition)
C300 64GB SSD ( Main HD , Windows only)
WD 1tb SATA 3 Black edition(everything else)

Thats basically it.

I play games , Ok alot of games but i am finding that the system does not have as much get up and go as i would expect , i figure it would have more than enough power to do anything and fast. But i find it doesn't very sluggish when opening programs , Loading games and so on
About the only thing that is fast is booting to windows , takes about 8 seconds.

Any thoughts or comments are very much appreciated , am willing to try about anything.

Well you obviously have the right equipment. I know it may sound rudimentary, but have you performed any kind of thorough virus scans? Or perhaps you just have an incredible amount of startup programs like Norton, Macafee, or the like?

I really can't see that type of hardware being slow at doing anything at all, especially considering the SSD. have you performed any tests on your memory at all? if you think that it may be a hardware issue, I would start there, then move onto the hard drives.

As a matter of fact, if the WD drive is not needed to boot and only holds data, try booting up without it being plugged in and see what happens.

Booting is no issues , just basic operation , For example , i use Steam for 99% of my games , save for i think 2 or 3 that are not , and i play Bad Company 2 most of the time , but it seems to take a awful long time just to load into the game , not so much getting on a server cause everything is loaded , but just the initial load.

To give you a small background , i myself am a PC technician at a retail store , and god knows i do a good job at work but when i get home its like my tech brain shuts off , so who knows if i missed something.

As far as programs loading and such , none. i use a lite edition of kaspersky Internet security, and thats all that starts up. Start up isn't the problem as i said , boots into windows in about 8 seconds or so. its just loading programs after being in windows.

I will have to run a memory check , any ideas of good ones i can run from within windows?

Are the games on your SSD? See if you can get your Windows install size down so you can fit some more games on there, should help a lot with load times. Also what are your RAM settings? You probably don't need 8 GB (I barely use 50% of mine ), you could consider switching it for a nice 4 GB kit with low timings and a higher frequency.

All the games run off the 1 TB WD Sata 3 drive , basically for space , i have over 400gb of games installed.
The SSD only has the windows install and that is only useing 31gbs of the SSD HD
as far as ram is concerned , i have 4X 2GB Ripjaws , PC3-10700. Shouldn't have an issue with memory unless a stick is defective

Hm. That really shouldn't be an issue... perhaps try uninstalling some games and defragging the others. Basic HDD maintenance can definitely help.

i am in the process of defraging the entire drive , then going into steam and useing its defragger on the games and see if i can figure this out.

Something that just happened , i was installing CPU-Z , and just for the user account control pop up to come up it took about 12 seconds , about 10 seconds to long i figure. should be darn near instant on this machine.

Well, just for a reference point-can you post your W.E.I scores? This may give us a starting point. Also,do you have AHCI enabled or IDE?What are your system temps and voltages?Have you checked your CPU utilization at idle?

have you also trimmed your ssd? I had the same problem but you are not going to like it (hope your problem is diff.) my 1tb drive well smart said 98% but it was bad! and also was dragging down the system for some reason I don't know why but as soon as I disabled back-up and restore features and got rid of hibernation, every thing jumped to 7.5 w.e.i. from 4.9 ( on the hard disk) after the new drive (1tb one) w.e.i. jumped to 5.4 but the other settings really speed things up for me and I play Battle Field as well as many other steam games myself!

Processor - 7.5
Memory - 7.5
Graphics - 7.7
Gaming Graphics - 7.7
Primary HD - 7.5
Average - 7.5
That is the WEI scores for this machine

In bios it is set to AHCI

and temperatures are
GPU's running around 55 degrees Celcius
and CPU is running at 35 Degrees Celcius

CPU utilization at idle is 3%
CPU voltages are :
Vcore- 1.43
CPU/NB - 1.16
CPU VDDA- 2.57
DRAM - 1.60
Would you like to know anything else?
