q9450 temps

Thread Starter
I just installed the q9450 on my EVGA 680i. Everything seems good and temps appear to be within reason but I was wondering if it is normal for 2 of the cores to read a higher temp then the others before pullingn the HSF/cpu back apart.

Current temps below are right now at 22min into Prime95
core1- 65c (max 65c)
core2- 57c (max 58c)
core3- 62c (max 63c)
core4- 58c (max 58c)

Is this OK? Sorry if this seems dumb but the ones I found regarding temps didn't really talk about this. I am coming from single and dual core cpu's so this is all new to me.

Thanks.
Outlaw

Also, yes, even though all the posts and reviews I have read and you have probably read. I do have this CPU on an EVGA 680i system board which is said not to work.

Yep, a delta between cores is absolutely normal.

haven't had a chance to even tempt it. Just got stock working as it should. The System was reporting 2Ghz in Windows and 483Mhz during post.

Everything is stock. Temps are read from Core Temp. Cooler is the H50. My sig build is basically the system except now I have Win7, 8gb ram and this cpu. I also have a fan controller running my rad fan at about 50% with those temps.

Case fans:
2x 120mm front inlet
2x 120mm side inlet
2x 120mm top exhaust
1x 120 rear with rad exhaust

temps are fine imo, but what is the tjmax number in coretemp and realtemp?
i think the q9450 tjmax is 90 but i may be wrong. http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...hrottling.html
but the main thing is in realtemp, its the distance TO tjmax that matters, it stays the same no matter what you set it at.
just dont let it go lower than 20 in realtemp

also different temps on core is normal, on my q600 i have 10.c defference between hottest and coolest core when stress testing

also have you got better fans for your h50 and have it as a push/pull setup?
if not you will get better temps

as for overclocking, try here for loads to tips and settings http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...9450-club.html
there are quite a few similar 680i or 780i mobo's in there, and they can overclock on it

dont go above 1.4v vcore for 24hr use and vtt at 1.3v

Thanks.

Right now at idle, the distance to TJ Max is 48/59/54/61

I did use push/pull on it with the e6600 that was on there When I got the new case fans I used a high power/flow fan that is rated better then the 2 fans i had for push/pull. It is a 113cfm/5000rpm fan. I run it at 50% and was getting slightly higher then the e6600 which I would expect being it is a 95W processor vs my e6600's 65W. If the one fan on high wasn't enough, I could still remove the one side fan to make room for a push/pull with the high power/flow fan.

Example:
(Rad Fan at 50% 15min)
Idle Temp: 53/42/47/41
Dist to TJ: 47/58/53/60

(Rad Fan at 100% 15min)
Idle Temp:52/41/46/40
Dist to TJ: 48/59/54/60

Since, the results weren't really what I expected with the 1 fan, I think I will add the other high flow fan for the push/pull. Right now it is just pull.

Thanks for the links.

With the 680i board, I did a bunch of searches and only found others saying how the 680i doesn't work with this cpu and that you need a 780i (or equivelant) or better.
