I'm thinking it's because i'm using the onboard HD audio I can't use the Nvidia one?
I like to blame everything on my mobo
I went into the bios and turned off the onboard (it was ac97). Pretty sure you can turn off yours as well in the bios.

interesting turn of events.....
I got pissed off and did a fresh install of 7
installed nvidia drivers and still same problems
I give up so i start applying windows updates(which i didn't do on my previous install).
I restart and windows installs an HD audio driver. I'm like huh?
I go to sound and i see my TV now listed as audio device.
Set it to default and winning!!!!

So I'm guessing something in 1 of the updates was needed

Odd question but did you connect your video card from a dvi-hdmi cable or straight hdmi-hdmi?

A dvi to hdmi cable won't carry the sound over to your tv, it needs to be hdmi to hdmi cable.

Hdmi is basically dvi with no sound. Dvi to hdmi cables can only carry video.

OP can you take a picture of the back of your pc/hdtv and show how everything is connected?
