Error message on boot up on my 3870

Well I searched around, and no one seems to have the answer to the issue. I just build my new rig, and the only part left that is archaic is my video card, which is a loaner from a buddy of mine. I spent an hour assembling the whole thing, but right on boot-up I get a flashing red text saying my video card power cable is not plugged properly and I should check my manual for instructions, with a repetitive beeping sound (the cable is plugged properly . The screen will not go away, but everything seems fine when the video card is unplugged, no sounds that shouldn't be there.

On many forums, people suggest that it's the PSU, but it's fresh out of the box and the voltage is more then sufficient to cover the GPU's need. I was wondering what might be the issue? I have to say that the card was used for only 2 months previously, and was stored for a while.

Looks like a possible GPU vs PSU good signal timing (compatibility) issue, try another PSU.

Would this mean I have a bad PSU, or is it just an issue with my current GPU? I bought the PSU because it was SLI certified, I don't understand why it would not run 3870? (sorry pretty new to this thing)

Update: turns out it's a connection issue with the video card, I bough a cheap nvidia card atm as replacement.
