i7 920 4GHz safe temps ?

Thread Starter
It's idling at 45c and the max it got to is 82c in prime95.

are these normal temps for 920 @ 4GHz ?

thanks in advance
82c is pretty hot I would say mid 70's is max for high overclocks at 100% load. good temps are 60's or less at full load.

Well, the temps are actually a tad bit higher...but you should be fine. My i7930 4.2ghz idles in mid 30s and hits around 70 on full load. BTW I'm using a corsair H70 with 2x Xigmatek XLFs.

80c is way too hot. Looks like you oughta try adjusting volts to bring those temps down. Sounds a bit unstable to me. How long have you tested it?
Temps are high, but your voltages don't seem unrealistic....maybe a bit of case cooling, HSF improvements could help?

10-15 mins, i also tried 1.18v & 1.20v & 1.22v and it wasn't enough for 4ghz.

its very stable @ 1.25v 45c idle is fine since room temp is 24c but max temps makes me worried

80c? That is fine. Honestly keep it under 90 and you are good, that is if you are going to replace your chip in 5 years or so anyway(Most of here at ocn are going to be). I would try to re-seat your cooler. Seems really high for only 1.26v. That is nothing.

this might help!
intell data sheets list max voltages for i7 900 series as
CPU Core - 1.55
CPU VTT - 1.35
Stay under these and try to get it stable with the lowest voltage you can.
I have my I7-950 running 4.0ghz 24/7 stable ( its running great! ). Here are my numbers hope its a little help to you!

PS. TEMPS ARE WITH A H70, PUSH/PULL EXHAUSTING
