Well, I wasn't suggesting implanting the Nitinol. Just giving an example of how it's durability increases with current usage techniques (nitinol vascular self-expandable metallic stents). Though I am suggesting an interface with the actual nervous system for control of said prothesis. Such things are, and have been in development as well as limited use for years now in different guises. Not Sci-Fi, but reality here and now.

Cool tech and everything, but that thing is gonna weigh a ton, and will require the user to always have a compressor or compressed gas with them to use.
