Recommend me a photography forum

Thread Starter
As much as I like the folks in the photography section here, I don't think I like some of the OCN members in general.

Seriously, I do not know why I even bother going on OCN anymore. Everytime I try to be constructive in a debate, I end up getting shot down ad hominem. This would explain my lack of recent posts on this forum (not that you would care ).

Is this just a problem with this forum specifically, or is it because we have to deal with the lowest common denominator whilst we are surfing the net?

The only part of this forum I like going on, is the photography forum, but unfortunately, living on the other side of the world, this forum has become a bit more of public multi-user email to me.

Another point is, I honestly don't care about PC hardware anymore, I guess I'm one of those people who want to learn a lot about a topic, use it for practical purposes, and then retain that knowledge for future use. Essentially, I don't need to spend lots of time learning new information about CPUs, RAM etc really.

So basically, I'm looking for a bigger forum dedicated to photography with more lively discussions, i.e. more users.

Thanks

Danylu

If you're a canon user. Photography on the net

Nikon. Nikon cafe.

Just don't even open the computer advice sub-forums in either. Very few users there actually know what they're talking about. It's frustrating for me to see that much stupid in one space.

Since you shoot Nikon, then www.nikoncafe.com is a great place. POTN is canon oriented.

OCN has a very wide, public userbase. It's really a "too many cooks in the kitchen" scenario in some areas, but you just have to take the good with the bad. There are some very smart, experienced shooters in this forum, and many of them are pleasant to converse with -- just weed out the idiots, and it's a great place. The problem is that it's a board based mostly around Overclocking PC hardware, and it seems like you are looking for something more.

It's.... a forum. I'm not sure what you're expecting out of it.

I second POTN.

A word to the wise: Avoid the Computer subforum there. It's not a joke.

Sorry to say it, but you're being naive if you think other photography forums are any better. Older and more mature users maybe, but the ad hominem remarks and condescending attitudes are worse. POTN, DPReview, Nikon Cafe, they're all just as bad. Anonymity turns many people into jerks.

And decent people leaving the forum instead of hanging around and setting a good example doesn't help.

This is a fun thread documenting what we mean.
