Help: Computer Randomly Starts Slugging

I'm not sure what section to put this in, so hopefully this is the right place.

Over the last two days, for some reason, my computer will randomly slow down to an extreme crawl. Down to the point that the hardware interrupts are effected... this is seen by my mouse cursor lagging in the direction i move my mouse by a whole 5-10seconds.

Attempting to open the task manager feels futile. ctrl-alt-delete... click 'start task manager'... the screen goes back to the desktop... but no task manager.

Resetting fixes the issue.

I imagine it is something I recently installed that must be causing the problem. Any tips on monitoring my system to help detect the issue easier? Thanks!

This happens to me once in a while. No, it's not a virus, but rather a hardware problem. I've yet to find a definite solution, but I always found it happening when my computer is doing something hardware intensive. Resetting always fixes it. Sorry if this isn't really helpful, but it's what I've experienced also.

NOD32 + Malware Bytes

I'm guessing it's hardware related too.
