And that is also every single other dang game released after 2006. It's not news. The resolution scaling is called hor+ (horizontal increase), and it was applied to games after widescreen became popular. Nowadays, every single game uses that scaling method. Don't say that it favors 1080p over other resolutions. It doesn't. 1920x720 sees more than 1920x1080 as well. It's just a wider aspect ratio. That's how the scaling works. If we used vert- (vertical decrease) scaling, eyefinity and nvidia surround would not be usable in games.

I just upgraded from an U2311h 1920x1080 to an U2711 2560x1440, and I think it's utterly worth it. I didn't get more FOV, however, it's still lots of screen real estate

2: His screen can see the exact same amount as yours in games, but it takes more pixels to form one image, and therefore the image will have more clarity with a 1920x1200 setup. However, it should be noted that a high quality 1680x1050 can easily beat a medium to low quality 1920x1200 in games. But I don't think IPS 1680x1050 monitors are manufactured anymore...

Just go with the a 1920x1200 if you feel like the difference you saw at your mates place was worth it. But you should note that you might get a lower quality panel than the one he has. Just a chance. Shouldn't be disappointed if your new monitor won't hold up against your mates one.
To answer #1, I agree. I am always learning more every day about all this stuff (This is my first self built system. Before I would just get a prebuilt from Bestbuy and run it till the ex. killed it).
Thank you for your help. Looks like I will stick with my 22" for now until the 2560x1600s come down in price. Great excuse to go AM3 and get another 6850 for xfire.
I asked my buddy what monitor he had just for kicks: Dell U2410. A bit out of my price range for now.
It's so little!

Yeah, the dell u2410 is a high end monitor. If you got a low end 1920x1200 within your budget, it would look much much worse. So just recommend waiting until the prices go down.
