Monitor is flickering

Thread Starter
My monitor (signature) is flickering slightly but clearly visible. Stronger at the rims, less severe towards the center. Could this be a software problem, or a problem with the gfx card(signature) or do I have to suppose that the monitor is damaged? It occurs on both Win XP and Win 7, so I guess a software issue can be ruled out. The monitor is maybe 3-4 months in use, don't know how old it is, when it was manufactured.

I tried changing some monitor settings like contrast, brightness and, in windows, the resolution and some Catalyst settings on my HD 5970 gfx card. It still flickers.

So, should I send the monitor back right away or is there something else I could try to solve the problem first, before sending it back?

Thanks.

Try the monitor with 2 different cables. (to rule out the cables being faulty)

Try the monitor with 2 different computers (to rule out the GPU neing faulty)

If it still flickers with those, it's faulty.

Check cables for tight and secure connection. Could be a loose connection

Uninstall all drivers

After that, install Driver Sweeper. Then do the following:
  1. Reboot into Safe Mode (hold F8 during the transition from the POST to the loading of Windows).
  2. Open Driver Sweeper.
  3. Choose "ATI - Display".
  4. Click "Clean"
  5. Close Driver Sweeper.
  6. Reboot normally.
Then reinstall a older driver, such as 10.11

I would try using the monitor on a different machine, use different cable. Such as switch to dvi or hdmi or vga. you have all those different plugs try one so you can deduce if the cable may be bad.

If the problem still exist even after you tried new cables and new drivers then i would contact manufacture and send it back.
