Z-5500 (Big) Problem

Thread Starter
(I'm a noob when it comes to audio... Forgive me. I'm also only trying to setup a 2.1 system for the time being, I got an amazing deal on this and don't need much more than 2.1, 5.1 would be nice though)

Hey, finally decided to create an account after countless hours stalking this site... Anyway, I'm having a huge problem with my Z-5500's; one being that I can't get the damn satellites to work. They're always emitting a "static sound" and Realtek audio manager lists the front right satellite as the sub and the left as the center. Anywhere else I try to play audio, let it be games, videos, etc. The left speaker is off (But still with static) and the right speaker also emits static yet things are still audible just very, very low and muffled. Whilst all this is happening the sub woofer is working fine. I'm at a loss when it comes to this and speaker setups in general.

Other Useful information: I'm hooked up using analog (I think)... You know, the colorful wires included. I'm NOT using a soundcard, I'm going to invest in one soon though.

This is driving me crazy and help would be greatly appreciated, thank you for your time.

In the realtek drivers click the little folder at the top right and turn on port detection, this will allow you to verify that all the ports on the back correspond to the right output. When you plug in a cable it will ask you what you plugged in (ie, center/SUB, mic, LR, Etc...)

I've opened the Realtek manager and there is no little folder and I've tried all the icons that could be similar to what you stated.

Here's what it looks like

Try this:
Control Panel - Hardware and Sound - Manage Audio Devices - Right click your Audio Source (Realtek?) - Configure Speakers - Click 5.1

And go through the process.

How did you connect the 2.1 to the realtek? I got some z-5500's and i will try to help you out. but here is some pictures to help you out in the meantime though. As i'm guessing once you hook them up the stereo way you should be able to select it then and test it. all you have to do is double click the orange speaker in the taskbar to open the realtek control panel up for selection.

You could in fact hook them up via 5.1 and set it to stereo on the control pod also. Would work like that also.

Couple things wrong/I don't understand.

1st, you're using Z5500s, problem No. 1 (Just kidding, I'm trollin' )

2nd, you're trying to use 2.1 on a 5.1 setup. It should ALWAYS be on 5.1. You have 5 speakers and a subwoofer. That is permanent.

3rd, what you're TRYING to do, I assume, is output music into stereo. This is actually done by changing the CHANNEL to 2 instead of 6 or 8 or whatever madness you currently have it as. So look for channel and change that to 2.

4th, I think you have the analogs plugged into the wrong ones. Confirm this by running that feature that plays a sound out of each speaker and to confirm the process is plugged in correctly. You'll want 6 channel for this while you test, just to confirm that you have it plugged in correctly. Afterwards you can go back to 2 Channel if they are plugged in correctly.

The green one is the front speakers, the black should be the rear speakers and the orange should be the subwoofer/center.

The static could be 1 of 3 problems. 1) Distortion/onboard 2) volume being too loud (your volume knob on the z5500s should not be max. They should be medium or low and most of your Operating System sounds etc should be 80-100. 3) One of the settings in your sound control panel needs to be muted like Mic or something. Try playing around with those and see if it goes away.

I think I answered all your questions. Anyway, give that a go.

Here is the latest realtek driver which is version R2.58:.
RealTek v2.58

Once you check the box and accept the next page will have the links. There will be 3 sites to get it from at the top link. But they are sometimes a bit slow.
