Choose Me A Power Supply!

Thread Starter
Hello, I'm wondering what would be a good power supply to buy (and the amount of Watts I'll need) to run:

- OC'd i5 2500k
- OC'd SLI 560 Ti's

other stuff

Haf X
ASUS P8P67 Pro
Hyper 212+
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB DDR3 1600
random dvd drive

Also, what is the benefit of having a 80 plus gold certified power supply over 80 plus silver, etc? I'm very confused about this.

Thanks for all the help in advance!

A more efficient PSU means less of the electricity drawn is wasted, so in short, less drawn for the same result means power/electricity savings. It's worth springing for a good and efficient PSU because it'll likely pay for itself (or contribute enough to it) during it's lifetime to make the jump worthwhile, and you get to have better, cleaner power during using it.

It depends on the rest of the system, but in general, I'd be looking at 750W and up for SLi and overclocking.

i have an XFX 750w 80+ silver and its stupid overkill for what i have...it takes maybe 400w with everything maxxed out but heyy

overkill is under rated!!!!!!!!!

I got THIS power supply a couple months ago and it has worked great since I got it. I would definitely recommend it.

Check the recommended PSU sticky topic. Get a 650W from that list. The Antec TP-650 and the XFX 650W units are great deals.

I overkilled with my setup with a 750 watt, you'd be fine with a 650 watt, I plan on eventually (when I have money which I will never seem to have lol) to add another 6950.
