Asus GTX 580 craps out!

Thread Starter
So I have 2 GTX 580's (see sig). When I plug in just the reference card by itself (no SLI), when I try to run OCCT gpu test WITH shader complexity set to 8, my screen goes black and my computer shuts down. I also have to hard reset to get it to fully turn off. When I run JUST the DCUII 580 in the same test it works just fine.

What is wrong with the initial card?

OCCT gpu w/shader complexity up to 8 is a bit dramatic for such a delicate GPU. Most likely there is nothing wrong with your GPU and you'll nvr run into GPU computations greater than or equal to what is being stressed on your GPU by OCCT via real world conditions.

Well thats the thing, I was originally testing it and it randomly crashed in front of me. Both my displays shut off while I was on the phone doing literally nothing but looking at my screens. So I started testing. I didn't even try the other shader complexities since I wanted it to "full load".

If that is in fact the case, why would the DCUII be able to do it when the reference on can't? It's the same GPU in there, and neither card is going over 65 degrees.

The most stressful shader complexity for Fermi is actually somewhere between 2 and 4.

The Direct CUII has other componets on the PCB upgraded as well, the deliver better power ect. So it could def, run better than ref. design regardless of temp
