Thinking of getting another SSD for raid.

Thread Starter
I started my pc this morning and the bios screen was stuck on detecting drives, I unpluged the secondary HDD and it booted normally (checked the drive on other machine and its dead).

Since its gunna cost me £40 to replace the HDD should I get another vertex to raid.

Im guessing they have to be the same size, since raid0 splits everything, so will it have to be another 60GB?

How much of a pain is raid to set up?

Will I notice a massive performance boost?

Wouldn't really bother, you may gain some sequential transfer speed but will lose TRIM.
Difference in 'seat of the pants' feel isn't that substantial.

Also, you would have to back up all of your stuff before hand. After you put drives in a RAID0 array all data is lost.

Buy another SSD and use it as a separate drive where you install games or other programs.

I have two kingstons in raid 0 and I can tell you there is a huge speed boost in benchmarks.

But in real world use I cannot tell a difference.

Setting up RAID is very simple, you may fell a little lost at first but after the first time you set it up you will realize its just following on screen prompts.

Yes they will have to be the same size.

I personally notice no lost due to no TRIM. have a thread showing my benchmark after 8 months of use.

i had 2 hdd's in raid 0 that were different sizes... it uses the size of the smallest drive for raid and the rest is untouchable.

Everything was on the failed HDD (Office 2010, Docs, other steam games), and I have all backed up on the server my loft. So reinstalling is not an issue.

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardwar...rim-for-raid/1 < does this apply for me.
