Laptop stand/cooler for M11x made from sratch

Thread Starter
I was taking apart my desktop a few days ago, and didn't want the fans (red 120mm CoolerMaster R4's) to go to waste (since I doubt I'd sell them)...so then I remembered there's this one mechanic at my work that helps me with these small kinds of projects...so I decided I'd use the fans to make myself a laptop cooler/stand, and save myself the $15 or whatever if went out and bought one.

I don't have any pictures during the process, but here's two pictures of the finished product:

Not the most professional-looking, I know (when I took the second picture, I was reminded of Silent Hill tongue.gif). Made from two pieces of stainless steel, some rubber pads, and some car epoxy to glue the rubber and the fans to the metal.

To power the fans, I used this (which I bought earlier for my internal hard drive and optical drive):

I do need to buy a longer molex to SATA adapter, because if I want to connect my hard drive or optical drive, I have to move a few things.

Here's a picture of my setup with the new cooler:

At some point, I'll spraypaint it over, add a nice trim on the sides (some sides are kinda sharp), make the rubber thinner, and buy actual dust filters instead of taping on the ones from my old case. That, and simplify cabling by getting a wireless mouse, wireless headphones, etc. to make it all look nicer.

Speaking of - anybody know of good spraypaint for stainless steel, and another one for rubber? I'm thinking of going black for the metal and red for the rubber, but I'm also considering vice-versa if I can find a nice shiny chrome red I like.

And yeah yeah, I know, a laptop like the M11x doesn't even need a laptop cooler, let alone one with two 120mm fans rolleyes.gif but hey, it's nice knowing my laptop will always be cool for sure.

A tad ghetto, but nice nonetheless.
