I question if anyone who mentioned crysis have actually played crysis 2 on pc. It's a better game gameplay wise then the original.
However, I have seen videos and read reviews, and decided not to risk buying it after hearing of the changes to the single player gameplay. I'm not one of the ones who dislike the first. I loved it. The open world and nanosuit and weapon customization was a breath of fresh air, even if the second half fell a bit apart. I remember finishing it and seeing that ending, the music playing and all and Nomad going "no, we know how to beat them now, we're going back...", then seeing them heading back to island, and anticipating "I wonder what's next!". Well, going to an apocalyptic city with a more limited world didn't sound fun, and when the demo had traces of Call of Duty and port written all over it, they were just the icing on the top, so I decided it might be an okay game in it's own right, but not what I wanted. From what I've heard (don't worry, I can sort through whining), it sounds like I made the right choice for myself. The one thing I had little hope in, the storyline, seems a slight letdown too from coming from a supposedly good writer.
It has next to nothing to do with lack of DirectX 11 either. The game looks fabulous. I could care less if it's DirectX 7 or DirectX 12 if it looks as it does.
It had to do with feel, gameplay, and the open world. I just wanted more of Crysis 1, not Call of Duty meets Crysis meets a bit of knock down to the casual level.
So, no, I didn't try it, but I'm all but sure I'd like the first's gameplay better, even if this game may be alright for what it is, because what it is simply isn't for me. I'm simply not willing to risk the $60 "just to try it to be sure" when I'm all but sure I wouldn't enjoy it for that value. Unless I have enough going to make me nearly sure I'll like it, I am more careful about what I buy after being burned in the past that way. It doesn't work where I buy something to try it to prove I won't like it. Call it a less experienced opinion, but we are still allowed to have one having not played it. Not everyone is just whining about DirectX 11. Some of us aren't bashing the game and genuinely just don't prefer it.
