So you don't have a receiver then... I know an RCA from your 'pre out' to your sub works when using a reciever... does your STX have a 'pre out' output, or do the speakers?

I heard that was a great Sub, btw. I just added a sub myself and it makes quite a difference. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

The only way is to get this:

and this
CC399-12_LR.jpg

Plug the 1st adapter to sound card, then plug one to your BX5a and the other to the subwoofer. By doing this, you can only control the speaker volume from your computer. Balance out the sound of the sub and speaker by adjusting the volume knob so they sound even. Then don't touch the knobs again.

will do.. i think i'm going to buy a receiver when i get some money saved up. cause all these adapters and cables i've got going on back there is just ridiculous.

what adapter is that? and thanks again guys

3.5mm stereo to RCA. Keep in mind these are analog cables, so there is such thing as cheap cables, and nice ones. Better quality cables will improve sound quality.

He doesn't even have L/R RCA's on the sub?

But, those two cables will work, in conjunction with a 2 RCA female to 1 RCA Male adapter, and then you just plug it into the sub's "Sub in"

I don't know what's your definition of RCA, but mine is a hole/connector surrounded by a ring.

Ratings really don't matter, all of them will work as long as they have the right in/out ports and are the right colour if that's what you'd like..

Yes, that'll work. Then you just need a 3.5mm to RCA cable (male on both ends).

Since your bookshelfs are powered, when you step into a receiver, you'll likely want to get some new bookshelfs at the same time.

And keep in mind, with your current setup, your ONLY volume control is going to be Windows. If you turn your bookshelfs down, the sub will stay up (and vice versa).

So set your volumes on the bookshelfs and sub so they sound correct, and then use Windows to adjust the actual overall volume.
