I need help sharing a HDD across my network

Thread Starter
Hey guys! I have a desktop with a internal HDD that I use to hold movies and stuff and I want to share it across my Windows 7 network. So yeah, I would use homegroup but it never works right for me so I'm going to try to go around it. The only thing I know to do is to back click the hdd and share it across the network. Well, i did that and I mapped it as a network drive on my laptop but when I go to access it says access is denied but the thing is, I went and disabled all the sharing blocks on the desktop so that I wold not have any problems. I am able to share everything on that hdd with windows media player and the PS3 but I can't just browse the folders. So yeah, can you guys help me out

try going to command prompt and typing:

net use Z: *COMPUTER IP\\HDD LETTER*
For example, Net use Z: \\\\192.168.2.15\\c$ - this would be for the C Drive
It should ask you for a username and password, enter the admins password of the machine you are sharing from and it should appear as a shared drive in my computer if done correctly
