assistance with my corsair 650watt 80plus certified.

Thread Starter
hi, im a new member that has observed these forums for years for technical help numerous times. if anyone could help it would be appreciated.

i recently purchased a msi geforce 560ti for my intel Q8300 (4x2.5ghz) system. I have 4gb of ddr3 1333, a WD 1tb, seagate 500gb, creative xfi xtremegamer, and a zalman cpns9900 i believe(mayb the 9000) and 4 cooling fans in operation at the moment. i have my dvd burner and 2 extra fans unplugged.

now, my problem. ever since my purchase i have had unexplained restarts, and unexplainable crashes in 3d heavy games such as crysis 2. they are not bsod's as i have that disabled(automatic recovery disabled). and i didnt have this problem with my gtx260 core 216. does anyone have a stable system similiar to this with this psu possibly? or any advice thanks

ive also tried some wattage calculators and they read my theoretical maximum with my setup is about 650 so im assuming its just my psu. i just need some input if possible and what better place than here?

Calculators over estimate the amount of power you may actually need

How are your temps?

The power consumption of a GTX 260 and a GTX 560 aren't that different, and your system should be nowhere near consuming 650W. At full load you'd be around 350W. That said, something may be wrong with your PSU so that it's shutting down when placed under a certain load even though it shouldn't, but that's a bit hard to say. I'm leaning toward something being wrong with the video card, based on instinct.

my temps are great actually, everything under 90f right now, nothing ever above 120, 130 load for the most part. ied go into more detail but it actually just rebooted on me while in the forums. with only winamp open, and ie9. from my understanding i also thought the calculators overestimated. which is why im questioning myself.

same here shub. thanks everyone for helping.

i really didnt think it would make this profound of an impact on my psu. i figured my wattage at 500max. at full load. could it just be my psu dying in effect?

or do you think it could be my 560? ive never had any artifacts(not that i neccesarily need to) and it overclocks pretty well, and seems to restart randomnly, even on my desktop.

my gpu idles at 84f right now. probably lower if had better airflow with the extra fans.

my mobo is also a intel p45. which does have many problems that ive seen online, although this one i have now is stable. ive had to rma my previous one which died on me after over a year of solid use.

(intels customer support is a ***** btw) from my experience. i even isolated my mobo as the problem yet they kept thinking it was something else.

have you tried the latest drivers. your psu should be working perfectly with the card. try you gtx260 again. also the 560 is a power hog compared to the 260

fill in you system specs :http://www.overclock.net/specs.php?do=addsystem

i have the latest installed, 266.66 i believe.

and i updated my system specs.

and i believe the 560ti recommends a 500watt or 550 watt minimum. ive always wondered, do they include a basic (cpu, ram, and mobo) in that estimate? it has to because the card cant possibly drain that much on its own
