Brother's first gaming computer (Feedback please) - Page 2

Thread Starter
So you think that 320GB is too little for a 9 year old? My current sig rig has a 160GB IDE drive.

As for the OS, I'm running 32-bit Ultimate and it runs fine for me. There's no reason to go for 64-bit at the moment because it'll just hog all his ram. 32-bit uses less than 1GB on idle and 64-bit always used 1.8GB on idle. I'm not gonna be upgrading the machine for a while so there's not much reason for any of that.

Change HDD for Your brother computer! 320GB isn't just enough. Minimum I can recommend You is 500GB. But with 1TB You will be better than good ABout the RAM.... Windows 7 32bit will support this, but You will be able to use only 3.5GB of RAM. I recommend You to get Win7 64bit. Look at my sig. I'm using 3GB of memory for Win7 32bit and I don't need more cause of my Win copy limitations So if You want whole 4GB to get used get Win7 64bit. Rest looks good to me

He doesn't need windows 7 Ultimate, just get Windows 7 Home 64bit. While 4GB is definitely good for now you would be able to upgrade more ram if needed with 64Bit, 32Bit only reads maximum 3.5GB's of RAM.

As for the HDD the difference in cost between 320GB - 1TB is probably in the ballpark of $10-$15, spend the extra money and then his computer is future proof for gaming, downloading, etc.

I'm also not a big fan of that motherboard 24-pin placement (cables across a mobo = yuck)

This one might be better for you.
