I'm at the top of LGA775 (Q9650 isn't worth the upgrade, QX9650 and QX9775 don't overclock as well as an E0 Q9550, and everything else is slower). If I wanted a decent upgrade for my main platform I'd need a brand new motherboard, CPU, and DDR3 memory, so I'd be looking at $400+ minimum.
If your looking for a cooler try the thermaltake frio. It is half the price and give basially the same performance. http://www.overclockersclub.com/revi...sair_h70/4.htm, It is good with 775 and all the sockets out now. So you could keep that cooler for a while. My oc is on this cooler and i max out at 68c in IBT and 66c on Prime 95. And that is on low, high is just very loud and does like 1 c better cooling.

you could pick up 2 gtx 460's for about $300 if you go used an even better deal, or 2 6850's for about the same. those would be a nice upgrade. That is if you can hold out until the 6950/gtx 560 dips to the $150 range. maybe a gtx 460 2win when it releases, if it less than $350.

No way 2 4870's is beat by by one 5870. Maybe on some games that dont crossfire well, but not most other games and benches. Also a 6870 will not catch a 5870 and "spitin distance" probably is a little too close to describe. I say wait. Because Direct X 11 is not much right now. Also I had owned a 4870 for almost 1 year, and a 6870, 6850, and GTX 460, just stick with what you got.

For my honest answer though, I am very partial to the GTX 570. So get that if anything.
