Advice with cpu upgrade

Thread Starter
I want to build a new computer, mainly for gaming. Just from the CPU standpoint, would it be better to get a processor that is LGA 1155 or LGA 1366. I don't plan on doing any SLI at the moment, but that might change in the future.

1155 FTW !! Belive me , they've got lower power consumption , better performance , better architecture , they overclock better . What else ? 1366's are quite outdated now .

well 1155 is better in performance but you wont notice it in anything but benchmarks really.. thats my 2 cents
so if its gaming your doing you arent gonna notice any difference between the two

LGA1155 is the newer socket of the two, and 1366 is on the way out. The replacement for LGA1366 was slated for Q3 2011, known as X68. I seem to remember glancing over an article that proclaimed Intel had pulled their roadmap to revise the plan. But don't quote me on that.

Honestly, I'd hold off for a bit. The rumor mill is rampant that AMD may be back in the game (or even ahead possibly) in their new iterations of cpu's (bulldozer) coming out in a few months (June 11th supposedly). Following with Intel releasing it's newer cpu's (Ivy Bridge) soon after.

Oh, btw. nVidia has just announced official SLI support on AMD 990FX based motherboards. So yeah, it's worth hanging back for a bit.

This is just not true! The Sandybridge processers are newer and some are slightly faster at stock speeds! They are not a replacement for 1366. wich is a enthusiest socket !

The 2600k is a great processer and would be a good choice for gaming? as would any of the 1366 starting with the I7 950

Just remember as fast as tech moves these days! everything is on its way out!

Personally I'd wait to see how this Bulldozer/LGA2011 thing pans out.
If you really can't wait just get a 2600K or something.

All i'm trying to say is that he could get a better bang for the buck if he goes 1155 . + allmost all 2500k/2600k 's break 4.5 - 4.8 whitout a sweat . i agree that 1366 is for enthusiasts , but it's true if you're talking about the top cpus . if we look closer a 2500k @ 5 Ghz clearly beats a i7-930 at 4.2(you can't really overclock much more whitout serious cooling) . it's up to your decision .

wait for the next platform to come. your 775 is still far in terms of games. just get the latest GPU imo.
