Hard to answer. If I had to guess, I feel they will be on the edge of acceptable for your type of music. If you want half decent bass without large monitors your only option is really a sub.

Remember that another variable (and arguably the largest, sound-quality wise) is the size of room. Positioning will play a huge role too... If it's a small room you might be just fine. I have more than enough bass for classic rock from my VXT4's because I'm setup in a 9x11ft room.

Is there anywhere locally you can audition monitors? Buying based on others' opinions alone is not wise.

That's a fine combination, it'll certainly have no trouble with low freq. I just didn't suggest it 'cause it was over budget...

However, if at all possible, I still think you should listen before buying.

+1 to the size on the bx8a's, those are big

if you want clearer mids and highs, i would recommend a pair called the tannoy reveal 501a's

for bass, they are very impressive for a 5 inch woofer, i thought it was mind blowing, i later paired a ht-100 sub with it for more bass, best audio ive ever owned.

bx5a is a VERY popular and reccomded model, but after hours of comparing and contrasting at guitar center, out of ALL the models you listed (yes they had them all there, and i was adamant i wanted the krk rokit 6 or bx5a) the tannoys have the best clarity in the mids and highs

You are a marketers dream.

OT: The BX8a's are big. Having said that, they have some nice 8" woofers that put out really nice, tight bass. I own a pair of these and the BX5a's.

KRK speakers are also a popular pick. I haven't heard these in person but a lot of professionals use them.
