6970 is just a overclocked version. for example, I can take 1 6950, overclock it to stock settings of a 6970, and it would perform just as it was a 6970.
Not if you overclock the 6970.

and the flashy thing... it just changes the settings of the card, and is a lil bit more stabile then a usual overclock.

and also, flashing worls like a beauty!
6970 overclock much more, and they are clock for clock about 5-10% faster.

How about 6870's? They scale amazing and with a little overclock of 75mhz on the core in crossfire they are on par with a GTX 590.

Waiting on my order, know the UPS route they'll be here before 2pm

Benches for 6870 CF normally are in there, just OC it a little.

Yeah but you might as well just get a GTX 570. In every benchmark it's shown the 6970 isn't worth it. But if I could unlock a 6950->6970 I'd feel like my money would have been worth it.

This thread is 5 months old, I'm pretty confident OP is good on suggestions now.

A GTX 570 costs about the same as a 6970 and is beaten by the 6970 in most cases. The 6970 is about 5-10% faster clock for clock, and is can overclock much higher. Just cause the early 6950s unlock doesn't make all 6950s better, specially as MOST 6950s don't unlock anymore.

Pretty much every test comparing the two agrees with me.

And 570s can be had for as cheap as 290-300 now. A 6970 cannot.

I got one of my 6970s for 300, and another for 280, both BNIB, so yes they can be. Also, that's with old drivers done by a crappy site. 11.4 drivers are old and 11.6 showed 15% increases, if not more.
