Which cpu to pick? - Page 3

Well,I have to step in and give you an alternative. The Athlon II X3's are perfect for your needs as well.I just grabbed a 450 for $59 from Fry's,I will let the pictures do the talkinghttp://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1749452

$59!!!!!!

Beyond the insane overclocking of my particular chip, the architecture itself is very competitive with Phenoms. The lack L3 cache actually boosts memory performance. You will lose a couple fps at most in games, but this processor will play any game out their configured correctly.Just my 2 cents

Phenom II X4 will be enough for every game You played. Don't listen to others if I could I would sell my i7 920, mobo and RAM to get Phenom X6 because of the socket compatibility. Intel is starting to piss me of. 4 generation of CPUs in last 2 years LOL, they are bunch of idiots. Just get X4 or X6 (they're cheap right now) and I can assure You that You can't be more happier

Nice rig, I agree. With his budget he can EASILY get something much nicer than a dual core.

newegg.ca does but their prices are slightly higher (I think government taxes are in the costs), shipping is reasonable though.

AGREED! I love how the Intel fanboy's troll the AMD forums to tell someone who is obviously interested in AMD to switch to Intel. IMO AMD has never done me wrong yet.

Is the original poster even here?! He hasn't responded in awhile.

I would recommend going for a 21-22" screen, you can probably knock $30-$40 off there. I have two of the BenQ G2222HD (w/ HDMI) 21.5" screens, and I find that is more than enough for single screen gaming IMO.

Instead of taking the cost savings maybe add another 4GB's of RAM, 8GB's seems to be the comfort zone for lots of gaming. You can probably get a ATI card of comparable quality for cheaper than 155.00, the 5770's ring a bell

Otherwise the rig looks good you may want to go with a better name brand PSU like Cosair though.

*EDIT* Just noticed you didn't list a case. Just wondering if you forgot or maybe you already have one.

Can't beat the Phenom II x4 955 for $130. Socket compatibility is good and it's plenty powerful for what the OP needs it to do.
