If he was interested in building an Intel rig, I'm sure he would have posted in the Intel section. This is obviously not the case. He is seeking advice on an AMD rig, in and AMD sub-forum section.

I was an AMD guy from the K6-2 release until a few weeks ago, so I'm not really biased. After my Pentium 100, this is my second Intel system. No fanboyism here.

He also may have posted in the AMD section because there is a misconception that AMD is the only game in town for budget systems. $1200 is a very nice budget and puts him into a higher performance bracket. Like I said if he was dealing with $6-800 it would be different.

Nothing wrong with AMD, but for the amount of money he is going to be spending he should get a lot more out of it. I haven't shoved a gun up his butt, he can ignore my recommendation if he wants.

The 955 quad core has a 6m cache and is a great overclocker for 139.00. otherwise the 555 is a great dually and there is always the possiblity for unlock but it is a great Stand alone processor.

I would stay away from the Athlons because of ZERO L3 Cache and Memory is everything. Size matters when it comes to a build. And the more memory the better.

Again, please explain how he would "get a lot more out of it"? That sounds like the typical Intel fanboyism. I spent what he is looking to spend on my rig ($1100 total), and it is VERY comparable if not better than an i5 rig of the same specs for significantly less cost.

Please explain to me why my AMD is Rig is so SHOTTY.. Really. I know I don't get the benchies you do but you are always as fast as your slowest component. Your Harddrive and your ram.

Sure if he was a benchmark whore he would be in the Intel section asking around but he is in our neck of the woods and you need to find someone else to disciple into Intels Ledgendary Prowess as a processor. What is your BOTTLENECK?

And here the bla bla bla goes again^

OP, I can assure you that you will not get dissapointed if you take x2 or x4. For your needs, both are great actually, but I would take the quad core since your budget is very nice:)
