Possible PSU problem

Thread Starter
I do not know how to begin the problem I have. A week ago I started the computer, but after I was typing my login password the image will freeze. After a few seconds the monitor go black but i could see the logon screen in background. If i was leaving a few seconds more, artifacts where appearing.

My setup looks like this :

CPU - i5 2500K
Motherboard - Asrock P67 Fatality
Video Card - EVGA GTX570
Memory - 2x2 Gb GSkill RipjawsX PC 17000
1x 90Gb SSD
1x1Tb HDD
Power Supply - Cooler Master Pro M700
CPU is water cooled.

The system was not overclocked at that time. I changed the video card thinking that the card is dying. Having a few video cards i installed a BFG GTX280. After the logon screen i was having same problems. After all this, i installed a HD5450 and all the problems are gone.

My questions are :

- Do you guys think that my power supply is dying?
- Did i took the right decision to order a new power supply?
- Is Corsair AX750 a good choice?

thank you.

Probably not your PSU.

How come my computer is running fine now with HD5450 installed?
Don't know, but it really doesn't sound like something the PSU would cause. Not saying it's impossible, but it isn't the first conclusion I would jump to.

If I were in your position I would try booting off a Linux LiveCD to rule out the OS being futzed.
I second the Linux Live CD idea. I could see it being a driver issue on the nVidia cards.

Last night i reinstalled windows. Everything was good , but after i installed nvidia drivers problems reappear. Tried 2 different drivers but the results are the same.
Did you use EVGA supplied drivers, or nVidia supplied drivers?

You might want to post in the nVidia section to see if they have any suggestions on a specific driver that is working better.

I also wouldn't blame the PSU first. My first thought is the GPU.

Thank you guys for all the help

Apparently it was ME. I installed the video card in the wrong PCI-E slot. I read the installation guide and , if i use 1 video card only i have to install in the second PCI-E slot

thank you all
