How much better is the 6950 than the 6870?

I heard you can OC the 6950 to 6970 speeds easily, but which brand of 6950 is recommended if you want to do this?

The 6950 is about $60-80 more expensive than the 6870, but is it really worth it for me to spend the extra money for it? The only thing I want my GPU to do is run all the games I play at the highest possible settings (ex. Crysis at Very High).

Would the 6870 do that for me? What about the 6850? I'm just looking for the cheapest possible card which will get that done for me.

The 6950 is definitely worth it the extra cash, you also get 2GB RAM. If you want to throw all games at the card, get the 6950 and don't look back, you won't regret it.

Any reference 6950 2GB will most likely unlock (not OC). http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon...6970-review/18 Have a read, the 6870 is not that far behind. But then you account in unlock, and the gap gets wider.

There is a good article on Tom's Hardware about how eah GPU stacks up against each other for it's price.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...90,2879-7.html

The 6870 is only slightly below the 6950, but with the "chance" to flash a 6950 to a 6970 I would go with the 6950. Also, if you keep your eye out they can be had for ~250$.

Here is the article on techpowerup about how to unlock the 6950, if you scroll down to the bottom their is a list of each manufacturer and the success rate of each card's unlocking...

http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/...ng/vidcard/159

Looks like Sapphire or XFX are your best shot. XFX might get the win with the double lifetime warranty.

If you do not already have a 6870 with you, then go for the 6950 - no question asked. For the extract 50 - 60 bucks, you are getting 2 GB memory and about 10 - 15% performance stock vs stock. Unlock the shaders, and you are ahead by 15 - 20%. Overclock it and the gap just increases.
The only time it may not be a good deal is if you already have a 6870. And loosing money selling it to buy a 6950 may not worth it.

Pointless to unlock to full 6970, when you can keep the OC capability just unlocking the shaders, and the voltage control.
