965 BE
8 GB ram
2x 470's
h50

for $650

and buy
1155 2500k
h70
8 gb ram
1 570

or wait for 2011 socket.
Budget is 1700$

(he doesn't get the hdd, ssd, or odd)

I really hope nvidia doesn't do a 6xx series because of pcie3
That would REALLY piss me off.
I bough the 470 when it came out and then 560 ti (whats ti?) is faster than a 470. And a 570 is a faster 480.

So does pcie3 need new gpus to take advantage of it or ??? will older gpus beifit? I thought thats what sli bridges and crossfire cables are for.....

You'll be getting less performance on the SB setup because of the single card.. Though your sig says you have 470 I'll assume you have 2 since you posted 2 in the post. As for PCIe 3.0 it won't make much of a difference (at all) with current and even possibly future cards (the early ones at least).

Either way just wait for 2011 or Bulldozer, which aren't very far away.

Huh? I think you're a bit misinformed. THe GTX560 TI is much slower than a GTX570 and a GTX570 is neck and neck with the GTX480, and actually loses out to the GTX480 in some cases due to a lower amount of vram.

Depends on what you're using your rig for. If you're into gaming, the switch would be a downgrade considering the GPU swap. If you're into encoding/rendering you'd see a major benefit from Sandy Bridge, although such work benefits significantly from Hyperthreading. Assuming by your current rig that you're not an encoder, I'd suggest sticking with your current setup until Ivy Bridge/Bulldozer.

I plan on getting another 570.
I got my first 470 and then got the second later.
I don't think a third 470 would be a wise decision....

But with 2 470's I still couldn't get >30 fps in borderlands with forced 4xssaa.
I use a crt for 3d, so aa is really not an option. 1024x786

The something is seriously wrong with your setup. On my old Athlon II x4 630@ 3.7GHz with an HD4890 I could MAX out Borderlands at 1080p, and get 60 FPS (vsync capped). I still have no issues maxing out Borderlands...such an easy game to max out.

And yes, this is forcing as much AA as possible.

I can't buy amd anymore.
My temp sensors went out in my 965 and I asked for an rma.

They told me that if it works they will not replace it, I am assuming however my cpu isn't -229 C however.

Its cooled by an h50.
H50's are good, but they arn't that good.

So even if intel is worse I have to buy it. As a consumer I am fighting with my wallet. That is also the reaosn I chose a 570 over a 2gb 6850. The extra ram is good for super nuts aa; and is a solid sexy card.

But I need forced aa, and because of the 6xxx series not being able to do this I can't chose amd/ati.

I'm SUPER SAMPLING.
The unreal engine doesn't handle that well. Its currently cpu bound (for aa)

Borderlands runs really well on not so great hardware; but the seccond you force aa it takes a big brown wet dump.

edit: u sure you forced aa in nvidia inspector correctly? Not just for the shaders, but for the shadows also?
