From all the results I remember seeing it is anyways.

A well overclocked GTX 480 with the latest drivers can give a 5970 a runs for its money. A GTX 580 can straight up dance with a 5970 and the 570 with a little overclock is at stock 580 performance.

I got nothing against a 5970 is a badass chip but its not the monster it used to be compared to the latest generation.
Are you for real dude? The 5970 is a monster, especially considering its age.

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2010/11/14/geforce_gtx_580_vs_radeon_hd_5970_2gb_performance/1 The 580 does well, 5970 is still faster.

Good luck with your choice.
Both are good performers.

Here are some older reviews, both sides have released drivers since then that increase performance.
A bunch of games are there to give you a good idea of how they compare at different resolutions.

That equation is entirely incorrect, you must not have studied the right material. Here's a new study guide for you.

Everyone needs to read this and post results of performance if you want things changed....I use this as my "GPU Bible"

Depends on the price, myself I wouldn't pay more than $350 for a 5970.
If you're paying that much or more, then look at the 570 and 6970.

OR! just buy another 460?
My vote would be for another 460 and if you were willing to buy a 5970 then why don't you upgrade your processor?

You could get yourself a Sandy Bridge setup and another 460 for the price of the 5970.
