[NYT] No Longer Shackled by AOL

Engadget’s relationship with AOL was always tense. A high-velocity site that competed for technology news with the likes of Gizmodo and CNET, Engadget never fit in with other AOL properties, largely middle-of-the-road, just-good-enough sites that didn’t bring a lot to the table.

Many of you will find this interesting. Last time I posted an article like this it was consider not newsworthy...

Hmmm, I wonder what this will mean for Engadget in the future. I check their website daily, and I sure as hell will latch onto this other site that's being created by Topolsky and friends.

I consider this very newsworthy. These two articles highlight a growing problem in the technology news age. Quantity vs. Quality. Obviously, AOL is more interested in shallow, hit-generating content completely in favor of earning profits and that is not the vision that the previous editors of gadget had for their website.

So they are starting on a new venture. Hopefully, it will be something successful, and something that emphasizes critical-thinking and quality analysis. A second AnandTech, if you will.
