[Q] Optimizing the 800D for Air Cooling

Thread Starter
Can anyone offer me a hand in optimizing a Corsair 800D for air cooling? e.g. what fans to use, air flow and movement

It'll be housing an overclocked i7 2600k and 2 GTX 580's, also overclocked. It will also house 5 hard drives (4 drive RAID 0 array in the hot swap slots, SSD inside the case)

The reason why I am adamant in my choice of the 800D is because of its sleek looks and cable management is so easy.

650D. 800D but smaller and can fit what you are wanting perfectly. 200mm in the front 200mm on top 120mm on the back. perfect airflow. Also a 2600K is a sidegrade from a Intel Core i7 920.

Ehhh... I'm kind of partial towards full tower cases rather than mid towers like the 650D because I am not the most dextrous of people and I really really really suck at cable management, which a smaller midtower case would not help.

Honestly, I wouldn't go for the 800D if you're looking for good air-cooling. If you must, get some Yate Loons or Scythes...

I agree, the 800D isn't known for it's air cooling, it's known for it's water cooling. The 650D might be a better choice, but if you have to stay away from mid towers maybe try the HAF X or the silverstone FT02.

Nope. Going from i7 920 to 2600K isn't worth the 600dollar+ investment for very similar performance.

What if I replaced all the fans with Gentle Typhoons? On a side note, the 600T is looking very nice, wish they made it in a full tower version though, lol

Eh, what can I say, I'm a performance whore

Additionally, I do a lot of video editing and gaming on my computers.

I doubt you'll see a noticable improvement, and even then it's 10% at most.
