[Q] Optimizing the 800D for Air Cooling - Page 3

I like my 800D though I'm using an H50 with it.

I have an AXP on my 480 so the heat goes into the case but I've got the top three fans exhausting to take care of that as well as a front bay fan to bring more cool air in.

I like that Corsair has the USB3 front panel/SATA plate upgrades to keep the 800D up. Would be nice if we got them for free but thats just wishful thinking.

Maybe if I switched my CPU cooling over to the Corsair H70 and upgrade all the fans?

Just two questions if I choose to go this route:

1. How easy is it to set up a Corsair H70? And how difficult is it compared to a custom loop?
2. What fans should I upgrade to?

You can't get any easier than a H50/70 setup wise.

Fan wise check the fan round reviews in the FAQ area of the watercooled forum. Plenty of numbers and conclusions to help you pick the one that fits yer needs.

I don't really care about noise, as long as they don't sound like airplane turbines. I just want maximum cooling for my SLI'd GTX 580's, price is not a factor here.

I was thinking perhaps I use Gentle Typhoon AP-15's in a push pull configuration with the H70 and replace all the stock case fans with Noctua fans?

There are a lot of things that the 800D does better than a HAF, noise levels, watercooling, maintaining a streamlined appearance without tons of excess plastic parts, etc. It seemed only fair to give them a win in one category.
I buy a case to do a task, like WC/AC for instance. I myself have a 800D (Sold), WC on it is great, especially when pair with white WC tubes. but AC with it, is a nightmare, my temps were very very high, I kept on thinking that my 2600K on the stock cooler would die......in other words, Air on the 800D is like Water on the FT02, it doesn't go together well.

TBH a Cubitek XL tank beats both the HAF and the 800D, good in-between case for AC and WC. George I think you should check it out and hopefully implement some of its features

on a sidenote, since the 800D has hotswap bays occuping the place where the front intake fans are supposed to be, perhaps you should try intake from the side? like this Lian Li for instance
http://www.lian-li.com/v2/en/product...s_index=62&g=f

Another minor aesthetics gripe is that there are 6 feet, seriously? 6 feet? 4 feet please.

Also, I hate the wavy design of the window, stick to straight rectangle/square windows like the 650D, and please for the love of god don't add those clips!

Perhaps some people like the industrial look? I personally don't like it though. But then again I modded my HAF's facia

wanna know why 800D performs better in that aspect? Because there are near zero fans! You should really implement Fractal Design's ModuVents.

I had an 800D running that with an overclocked 920 and triple GTX 480s in the lab, and the temps were very manageable, never had a single heat-related crash or anything.
Did you try other setups? I interested because I'm getting good temps with 2 front top fans as exhaust, top back and the 140 as intake. I'm maxing out at 57C on my CPU at 4.5 GHz.

When I just had one video card I used my system like that, with the rear and top back as intakes. When I upgraded to 3-way SLI I noticed I got better GPU temps by reversing the rear fan as an exhaust and using the top 3 as intakes.

I was using GentleTyphoon 13s.

I only have one card so I think I'll keep mine the same. If I go SLI, I'll definitely switch them around.
