up the voltage to 1.5v and push it to 3.8GHz to see if it's stable.

Why did you get the 140w model? o.O

The 140w 965 is pretty much the same as the c2 rev. 955 with a different multiplier.

Every chip behaves differently, but if it's anything like mine:
-3.6 GHz will need at least 1.38 volts
-3.7 GHz will need at least 1.43 volts
-3.8 GHz will need at least 1.48 volts, give up here it's not pulling 140w anymore its going 200+
-adjusting the multiplier in BIOS above 3.5 GHz is never stable regardless of voltage, it's a bug
-adjusting the reference clock in BIOS is stable
-adjusting the multiplier and voltage in Windows via PhenomMSRTweaker is stable if BIOS is left on auto multiplier
-stock heatsink absolutely runs out of capacity at 3.6 GHz

Some places to start. Make sure you have some good airflow on that VRM heatsink if you go past 3.6 GHz.

You will need more voltage
I topped out at 3.8Ghz 1.475V on my C2 965 (Sept. 2009 - May 2010, replaced with x6 1055T). Above that I needed a massive jump in voltage to get 3.9Ghz stable... wasn't worth it
Be sure you have adequate cooling

I've tried running and testing at up to 1.6V on my C2 140W 965 and my mobo held up just fine with it despite the load. The M4A79T features a similar, quality 8+2 power phase, it should hold up.
