12ft may be a bit much, but it all depends on how much of a perfectionist you are. If you are new to sleeving, then expect to struggle with the shrink in the begining and cut a lot of it off. Same goes if you want the uniform look of all the sleeves lining up at the connector.

Your best bet is to test sleeve a few wires over and over a few times until you get a feel for how much shrink to use for the look you want. Then precut your shrink. I find that makes it easier to get more uniform look across the connectors.

ok ill stick with 12' since its sold in 4' lengths. was hoping to bundle to keep shipping costs down but the clean cut just looks easier to work with. gonna wait till 10 or so tonight to order incase anyone else has any suggestions. right now it says that furryletters is away and delays in processing/shipping are likey. this true? if so +rep for another link to the same black cleancut off furryletters. getting 50' royal blue paracord and 12' of the heatshrink i found earlier

thanks for the tip of the practice cable. definetley going to precut the heatshrink and do my best to make them all uniform. im not gonna put a non uniformed cable in an 800d

bumpage totally got distracted cuz i got talking to my mom and dad. they said their contract with dish is up next month and gave me green light + funds to build a min pvr and netflix/hulu box! enough about that here. will be reaserching/posting in the right places for that.

anyways will order sleeve and shrink in the morning. bumping for links to royal blue clean cut if it exists. if not i might get black clean cut and royal blue paracord or just all paracord if shipping is an issue (plus itd be nice to just get 2 packages instead of 3)

Go paracord all the way. Its cheap and looks great. Mixing sleeving may not look very good.

ya thats what i was afraid of and why i was lookin for royal blue clean cut. but if they dont no biggie. im fine with taking a little longer to make it look good. i have 2 6+2 pins for my gpu that i was going to use while i sleeved the 6 pins

edit: any tips on sleeving with paracord? was planning on killing a roll of scotch tape and taping the pin to one of the inner cords and pulling it thru. also should i melt the end after i cut to prevent fraying before its under heatshrink? just thought of that and that it might maybe make an odd bulge in the sleeve if it melts weird

I've just been taping the pin and doing the push and pull method.

With paracord its a bit slower than other types of sleeving but it works well.

I do melt the ends after pulling out the core fibers. I lightly pull on the sleeve and very briefly pass a lighter over the frays. If you pull it too tight it will be difficult to get the cord over the pin and if you melt it too much it will bulge a bit under the heat shrink.

Its very fiddely stuff but I find sleeving with paracord relaxing. Its something to focus on and forget about worldly distractions.

fyi, paracord never ever snagged on me...and i've only used it on one occasion- im newb to paracord and yet it didnt snag on me.

just put painter's tape or anything on the pins and push them through the cord...not that hard to do, plus, youd probably do the same with clean cut sleeving.

one thing though- is that it's diameter, the 550 cord, is smaller than the clean cut and also way less expandable, so sleeving cords like the molex chain would be hard/impossible without taking it apart

and imo, i got royal blue, but wished i got electric blue instead. it seems to look so much better

paracord it is then. i was talking about taping the pin to one of the core fibers and pulling the wire thru while pulling core fibers out. kill 2 birds with one stone mentality but ill try it both ways.

+rep for great wisdom and sleeving prowess

ya thats a big reason why i want to sleeve. unfortunatley next week at work is going to suck having to pick up ~7500 shirts, ship ~2500 for personal orders and deliver the rest. lol im hating on the day with out hate

I would take out the core fibers first...or maybe take all but 1 out ( if youre doing 1 wire in each sleeve )

then do the push pull method.

the verdict is in! ordering 50' royal blue and 100' paracord in the morning + 12' of the shrink i found on McMaster-Carr. so glad i got the fully modular psu and the only molex cord im using is completly hidden thanks to the awesome 800d. but it looks like i should have a decent bit leftover as im not planning to sleeve much. who know i could get the full case mod itch and just do it XD

much love and rep to all!! if u posted here and i didnt +rep you feel free to smack me
