Oh, why does everyone abandon all logic when talking to me. Am I that intimidating?

More adequate? Don't bullshut me, man.

A 5.0Ghz 2600k will get FAR better gaming performance. The old "overclocking is only good for 3D rendering" argument is getting old fast.

Go look at benchmarks.

It's not a high-end CPU, it's a scam for people to think it's a high-end CPU, because of the '6' in the name and buy it instead of the 2500k.

I would get an i3-2100 before I get an i7-2600.

Handle their cash situation? Obviously you've never been in a committed relationship.

They handle it like everyone who lives in the same house, eats the same food and pays the same bills - together.

The 5GHz 2600k isn't going to get noticeable gaming performance over a stock 2600k unless if you're looking at a game like Starcraft which can get laggy for any computer setup, no matter how beast it is, when in some ridiculously large custom-map battles.

But as far as a regular single screen setup goes, no one needs more than a stock settings 2600k for games. The FPS you will get from the stock 2600k is going to be more than enough. Your argument that a 5GHz 2600k is going to give blatantly better performance in games which is just so obvious is... well... farfetched. Sure, in a benchmark you'll get 200fps instead of 160fps let's say (arbitrary numbers)... but what does that matter? Do you have a screen with that kind of refresh rate and eyes that can catch those kinds of framerates?

I wish you were right, my friend, but you're not. I'll just let the public decide.

Far better? Is that what you tell yourself to justify your purchase? I'm just being realistic. What games are you playing that will choke a stock 2600? I'd really love to hear this.

Not everyone pools all their money, and not everyone uses said funds for gifts. But that's really neither here nor there. You seem awfully invested in this topic. Why so much aggression?

Cant you overclock the turbo by 4 bins? you should be able to get 3.9ghz with 4 cores and then overclock the bclk to 105, that brings you to 4095mhz. not a bad oc 17%. I know the feeling I always hold on to gifts, even if there is better for cheaper or I could get lots of cash. @4.1ghz you should be fine for at least until it would be ok for you to sell to fund an upgrade. it wont be slow at all.

Such an epic LOL OP if you paid attention I already posted that on page 2, the very first post on page 2. If you had just read that instead of getting into a BS arguement with a bunch of ungrateful people you would have realised.
