I know the feeling I always hold on to gifts, even if there is better for cheaper or I could get lots of cash. @4.1ghz you should be fine for at least until it would be ok for you to sell to fund an upgrade. it wont be slow at all.
Hi does a bin mean my a digat one ie the turbo is set to 38 then a bin added would be 39.

plus do i need the turbo boast driver installed to use this OC as a permanent OC not just a boast

Unless you're playing at 1024x768, then no, there will be hardly any FPS difference between a 3.4Ghz 2600k and a 5Ghz one.

Just to proove that point there's a review between a stock 2500k and one OC'ed to like 4.8Ghz I think it was, and at normal resolutions, there was hardly any FPS difference, that's because the bottleneck is with the GPU, not the CPU.

I can also vouch for that, with my CPU at 3.4Ghz I get the same score in Unigine as I do when the CPU is at 4.5Ghz. The same in the 3DMark11 graphic tests. Also the same in most every game I've played.

Also, you CAN OC non-k models, just not as far, you just have to OC the bclk. 105x38 would get you almost 4Ghz.

ok does the 38 mean the Turbo and BCLK more like FSB. if you see the img below i am not to sure what to change

Nearly every MMO on the market is CPU bound. World of Warcraft, for instance, gets a much larger boost from a stronger CPU than a stronger GPU. For nearly any single player game (or standard multiplayer), the GPU is the more important component. So it really depends on the game in question.

Increase the 1,2,3, and 4 Core Ratio Limits as high as they will go (39). This will tell your system to use a turbo multiplier of 39x regardless of how many cores are in use. If you want more then 3.9GHz, you can increase your BCLK as long as it remains stable.

I ram my i5 2500 4ghz on all 4 cores 24/7 using a 38 x 105 frequency.
The non-k chips can be OC'd using the max turbo multi as the 24/7 multi and then seeing how far the BCLK will go... I think on a 2600 its 39 right? So 39 x 100-107 (doubt youll pull a higher bclk than that)
Will hit at least 4ghz...
HAHAHA! This post is awesome! After this post, People that thinks they know went out the window faster than my overclock. That is why I never listen to people that does not have first hand experience. Kudos to you brother for letting these trolls know.

You can overclock a non K SB chip! nuff said!

no take them from
38 -> 42
37 -> 41
36 -> 40
35 -> 39

That way all the turbos's are boosted. Then bclk should go to 105. that takes you to 4.1ghz. then do some testing.
