Unfortunately, the X650 is more expensive than the 1kW Hale90 here.

Therefore by using a 1kW PSU when the rig uses 500W will give you a very efficient, quiet, and cold PSU.

I'm gonna go for the 1kW, thanks guys!
You, too, should really read this: http://www.overclock.net/power-suppl...load-myth.html
A PSU should be adapted to the system it's in.

Yeah, but that doesn't really apply here since there's no price difference. Ergo, the extremly small amount of efficiency advantage a lower watt PSU would have will be negligable. I have yet not found any PSU over 450W that is as quiet as the Hale90 1kW for under 75% of the cost. If I would have found one I would have bought that instead.

Whether you consider efficiency or not, buying watts you won't use is still a waste of money.

Even if the lower watt PSUs are just as expensive? I kid you not, if I could find a PSU that's just as quiet with lower wattage and under 75% of the price, I'd get it in a heartbeat.

Btw, the 750W Hale90 is only about $25 bucks cheaper here than the 1kW version (not to mention it will get louder) so it would have to be from another brand.
Hale90 750W is quieter then both the 850W and 1kW versions. According to NZXT, 750W and below runs at 20db max, while 850W and above runs at 30db.
