[Softpedia] Intel Completes 10-Core Processor - Page 6

This may come as a shock to some people, but chip manufacturers don't design their CPUs with gaming performance as their primary goal.

Most of the time it's to do actual work.

Quad core 2600K > 12 core Opteron 6000. AMD's IPC per core is so low it's embarrassing.

You fail so hard for even trying to compare a server CPU to a desktop one...

Oh I'm sorry, 4 cores wasn't embarassing enough? How about a 6-core Xeon > 12-core Magny-Cours.

This 10 core the thread is talking about is a desktop core as well.

Who's fail?

Intel is fail and everyone who's amazed by a 10 core CPU

AMD have had 12 core CPU's out to market for over 12 months now...

Intel fan boys ' You don't need more cores'

Then as soon as news of a 10 core CPU emerges....there views change

As far as i know the only game at the moment that can take advantage of more then 4-cores is BFBC2 (which i think is supposed to be able to take advantage of up to 8-cores.)
ARMA 2 too.. I bet this CPU can run over 2k AI of every kind in direct combat smooth as silk (with RAID 0 SSD of course)

and yep, there is a lot of things that can use 10cores/20 threads; the world goes beyond "gaming" LMAO !!! xD

AMD actually have a 10 core 2nd generation enhanced bulldozer chip taped out for a 2H 2012 release. 8 core sandy bridge is out later this year. I welcome it and im looking forward to seeing AMD and Intel tough it out for a while before I do my next CPU, Mobo + RAM upgrade cycle. I have an idea of how its going to be though.

8 core bulldozer slower than 2600k single thread but about the same total integer and cheaper forcing intel to lower prices a bit but not much.
10 core bulldozer 2nd gen will beat a 2600k overall but same single thread lag.
Sandy bridge EN 6/8 core chips will whip even the 10 core AMD 2nd gen stuff but will be really expensive and also on 22nm while AMD is still stuck on 32nm.

I'm pretty sure this 10 core CPU is a server part only. LGA 1567 isn't for desktops..

Antuk: AMD's 12 core is 2 dies on one pcb. This 10 core is a single die. If I understand correctly.
