The nearest Fry's is hundreds of miles away from me.

Should I get a open box DS for $40 or a brand new one from TD for $52 shipped? Hmmmm

add-on Sound-cards don't really make your music sound better, it's the added effects from stuff like the crystallizer on x-fi cards.
If I turn off all effects, it sounds exactly like your regular onboard sound.
Electronic engineering 101 says no. Learn how digital sound is processed and you'll see why the above statement is so ignorant.

the DG is better than the ALC889A objectively.

I don't care about technical details of sound-cards, I care about how something sounds.
Ofcourse, there will always be the hi-fi boys like you that can hear the difference between high quality mp3's and the cd, but i'm just talking about the average consumer like most of us.

If you care about how it sounds, then wouldn't you want to know how it works?

Not everyone is like that. Take cars for example and how my wife views them. She loves cars, looking and driving. However, she could give 2 sh*** about how they work or whats under the hood. As longs as it works, that's all that matters. At least, for some people.

Remember, not everyone things like you do.
