Sandbox games are the way to go and BC2 was barely sandbox. True sandbox is like Ghost Recon or Operation Flashpoint 2. Sandbox games in FPS are usually a lot more believable.
COD's tightly scripted way makes it feel like your a one man army "one soldier taking on the world". Just look at how many enemys you kill in one level, it's almost in the thousands.
Ghost Recon and Operation Flashpoint had a lot more believable missions. You weren't taking on hundreds of opponents super soldier style with a six man squad. You had realistic missions like go take out this radio tower, with a realistic amount of opponents to face. You could engage more if you wanted but usually what would result in death, so you had to think. Thinking is a key part in adding depth to FPS. Instead of it being mindless run and gun play like COD.
Way to noobifie the game.
you can still have scripted believeable missions like in ghost recon. Just look at the videos released for bf3, those are extremely scripted, but all believeable.
Keep in mind folks, GTA's Story is as scripted as it can get.
